The competition is happy to announce its new coordinator. She is Donna Ahrens, recently retired president of The Friends of the SPCO. She was a longtime editor at the University of Minnesota and senior editor at Minnesota Physician Publishing. She will be assisted by Roberta Kagin, founder and Professor Emeritus in the Music Therapy program at Augsburg University.

The Des Moines Symphony Academy Quartet, this year's 1st place winners, performed two works onstage in the Ordway Concert Hall Saturday evening, March 18,  at 7:00 p.m.  preceding the SPCO concert. They played the first movement of Beethoven's Quartet No. 7 in F Major and the second movement of Ravel's String Quartet in F Major.

Chuck Ullery, former first bassoon with the Saint Paul Chamber Orchestra, introduced them and conducted a short interview and question and answer period. They and their coach were also honored at a reception following the concert, sponsored by the competition committee of the Friends of the SPCO.
